oh so crafty

So I made two skirts yesterday. I love the fabric, puts me in a fall mood!

I am also working on a teddy bear (crochet) with some fabric accents. I think I am going to use some of the left over plaid. Should be cute!

Have some fun today!

Crafty Lately

So lately I have been crafting, crochet, and sewing lately. A few bits of baking.  I thought I would share the plushes I have been having so much fun making.

My little monsters-my original patterns
Now with flash to really see the colors

I made this hat on the fly,
I have showed off the dresses I have done. Right now I am thinking about picking up a nice plaid fabric to make a cute fall skirt.
I need to add the buttons, and then I will be done with my sister's present. I have started working on a shawl for my aunt. I have also been working on a pattern in my head, for a driver's cap (crochet). I am hoping to work up a pattern for the driver's cap soon. I have seen a couple of patterns, but not many.

Have some fun today!

Trees are turning, and so is my hair!

I love being a red head! It just felt right to dye my hair red again. I was a red head for most of high school. Any colors you like to dye your hair?

glasses

I have lately been obsessed with glasses. Not just any glasses, cat eye glasses. I don't really need glasses, but I want a pair. Lately I have been wearing some hobby glasses, +1.00, they help stop the headaches when I crochet. I just want to find some cat eye frames. I think I would look soooooo cute! I see a lot of the thick framed "nerd" glasses.

Well I am off to spend the day with my grandparents, and my younger brother. I should try to go thrift shopping, for some glasses!! I so don't need.

Have some fun today!

Fall

So the official first day of fall is this Wednesday. It has been feeling like fall, which is OK with me. The leaves are starting to turn and it is so pretty! The Fryeburg fair is in a couple of weeks. I can't wait! One of my favorite parts is checking out to fiber barn. The center table is filled it wool! I haven't worked with wool yet, just haven't bought any yet. I also want to try felting.
I finished my cute cupcake apron, and made some yummy red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. I brought some to work, and they went over very well. Yay!
I nearly have my sister's Christmas gift done.
I finally got a picture of me in the dress I made, it doesn't look so weird on me as it does on the hanger.
Now I am off to find some hot apple cider! Oh and go to work.
Have some fun today!

Well it's that time of year so mums are blooming at work!
Of course we also have pumpkins! Can't wait to pick out one. I don't know what I am going to carve this year, but it will be fun!

What I am listening to

So September is definitely here. Lately all I really listen to, on my way to work is Creedence Clearwater Revival or CCR. I have the Chronicle Vol. 1 album, so I got all my favorites. Bad moon rising, Down on the corner, Fortunate son, Who'll stop the rain, Lookin' out my back door, Lodi, etc.

Dress Code

So yesterday I had an interview (yay). I think it went well. I just have to wait for them to go through other interviews, and my background check. I am not worried about the background check, it was the mention of a dress code. Alas a dress code, I was spoiled the last two winters. I could wear what I wanted, within normal reason. This company wants black shoes, black pants, and medium blue shirts. If I get the call, I will need to take a trip to goodwill. The other thing, I chickened out asking about was tattoos.Mine weren't showing for the interview. I will be getting another one in October, on the inside of my fore arm. It will be getting colder, so I can wear long sleeves if it is necessary for my to hide them. I understand tattoos, are still not completely socially acceptable. Even as more and more people get them.

The dress code got me thinking about my whole life, and the relationship (or lack their of) with style. I have never really been up on what's in style, or what's in. Main reason, it is not always comfortable, and would be expensive to be constantly trying to keep up. I will say I am happy to see flannel has come back. SO comfy!

In grade school, I wore sweat suits very, very often. I am talking about same color pants, and top, with the top usually having some picture on it, like a cute kitten or two. Grade school wasn't a big deal, we were too busy playing to care what we were wearing. I got into middle school, and then started to wear jeans. My family didn't have a lot of money so most clothes came from Goodwill, Salvation Army, or the church thrift store (not a bad thing, if I had known how to make it work for me). Then Walmart came to town, and I did get some newer clothes. Luckily for my parents, my last growth spurt was around middle school. I reached my final height of 4'11". I was small so most of the clothes that fit me well, came for the children's section. I wore clothes that were comfortable, and nothing really to flashy. I was more of a background girl.
High school  started, and my freshman year, I wear a Maine sweatshirt obsessively. It was navy blue and in white letters, said Maine across the front. I got it from a thrift store, and it was comfortable. I would consider it like my safety blanket for my first year. I got teased. After that year it disappeared.
Since then I have had a few  jobs with dress codes, so I bought clothes accordingly.

I have always kind of struggled to figure out my own personal style. What makes me feel happy, and comfortable. The biggest thing for me was feeling comfortable with myself. I have actually built up confidence, and become happier with who I am. I never really worn dresses or skirts (my mother always complained about it a lot , when I was young). This is the first summer I wore dresses, and I realized how much I really like it.
I have made a lot of skirts for myself this summer, and have worn them a lot. I made my own skirts because stores never carried the right length that works for me. Usually way too short, or too long. I could pick out my own fabric, and go nuts. This year I also finally signed up for Etsy. I am in my happy place. Poor Pitiful Pearl, Violet Bella, Mountain Girl Clothing, Emandsprouts, etc. I love it! I might call my style, eclectic, free spirit, fun. Now if I could find a place to work, that lets you wear your personal style ( I understand, within reason).

I do understand that the dress code, creates a more professional look.

Sorry for how long that was, and not terribly exciting. It has just been on my mind. Any thoughts about dress code? What would you call your own personal style? Any other Etsy shops you might recommend?

Have some fun today!

September to do

So I have my list for September. Nothing super exciting just things I need/want to do.

  1. Find a winter job- My normal job is coming to a close for the season, and I know my boss would try to    keep me on as long as possible. Right now I am getting 28 hours a week, and that is a bit tough, and after next week I lose another 7hours. I know this is how it goes in this industry. I am hoping to eventually find a place I can reliably go back to in the winter.
  2. Bake red velvet cupcakes- I love cupcakes, and these are ones I haven't made yet. Also will make my own cream cheese frosting. I have to say my all time favorite cupcakes are lemon.
  3. Bake pumpkin spice muffins- made them last year, I love them. It is time again to make some more!
  4. Start a travel scrapbook- I haven't done any scrapbooking in a while. David and I don't take any huge road trips, but we still manage to find some interesting places. I really want to start documenting the adventures.
  5. I want to crochet my own mittens- Sounds easy enough, but I haven't made them yet. I will coming up on my first crochet anniversary, I taught myself to crochet at the end of September last year.
  6. Stop putting it off and finish my sister's Christmas gift- I like to start early on making/buying Christmas gifts. I have been working slowly on my sister's gift, getting distracted doing other projects. I can finish this before the end of September.
  7. Clean my car- I practically live out of my car in the summer. I have totes of clothes, rain gear, and different shoes for work. I also accumulate a lot of dirt in my car, I do have a pretty dirty job. Now that this year's season is coming to a close, I should have no problem cleaning the car.
There it is, like I warned nothing too exciting. This should help motivate me to get it done. I have 22 days, I think I can do it. I won't stress myself over it.
Fall color is just barely starting to show but soon I should be seeing trees like this soon.

Have some fun today!

Weekend off

I got Saturday and Sunday off!! Wowee! The only sad thing was, I could feel a cold coming on. I woke up Monday and there was no doubt I have a cold :(  Oh well didn't affect my weekend a whole lot.

Sunday we went driving, which usually means we end up in New Hampshire, we live so close. Stopped at a gas station, and saw six packs of beer, Woodstock Inn & Brewery. We figured we weren't that far from it, so we traveled up the road, and with a little help from David's GPS, we found the place. A really cute Victorian as the inn, with a train station attached as the restaurant and brewery. This is the second brew place I have seen reuse an old train station. Sebago brew pub in Gorham, Maine reused an old train station.
Anyway the place was cozy, and I loved the setup. The brown was very good, and I am inspired to brew up an oatmeal stout. I picked up a t-shirt with their autumn ale logo, smallest size is a unisex medium. It is a bit long and loose on me. I just love the logo though.

David and I love to just drive. I also love the views in the area. I have a picture from a drive in New Hampshire a couple of weeks ago. Give it another week or so, and it will be even more colorful!

Also, I have been making up a list of what I want to accomplish for September. I want to post it, because that should help motivate me, to get through it. There is nothing earth shattering or tremendous, just stuff that I would like to do. I can be a really good procrastinator, so I would like to change that.

Well I can't put it off anymore, I need to get ready for work.
Have a fun day!

It's all about Earl

I turn on the news to listen to the weather. I don't really pay attention to anything else, I just need to be prepared for what weather I will be working in. Lately it's all about Earl! I just want a good dose of some good steady rain. But he will probably bring us down pours. Hopefully the plants can still get a good drink. We need it, to make the fall colors last. We have leaf peepers coming. Yup, Maine depends on those fall colors.
The temperature is supposed to go down today, but humidity is supposed to come up just for today.
Still looking for a job, I noticed a sign at AC Moore, looking for part time, full time, and holiday help. I would totally be up for holiday help, and the discount.

I have a picture of my dress (Anna Marie Horner, evening empire dress). I washed it and something happened with the interfacing I am really hoping I can iron it out. Took the picture this morning so it looks dark, and it looks funny hanging, BUT is Super cute on me. The zipper was soooo easy to do. Yay me!

Also I got a wonderful hybrid dress from Poor Pitiful Pearl

Oh so perfect for me, I do like purple. I think I like green a little more. But purple is a close second.

AND I got a custom Oxy, from my Maine arborist t-shirt. I got this shirt because I did so well on my arborculture class final (unfortuately it was a unisex medium, very loose on me). Tom Hoerth is such an awesome teacher, and I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Good times.
Shauna is so amazing! It made me so happy to get this. I am absolutely hooked on PPP.

Have fun today!
